Unglazed Quarry is a very durable tile which has a dense body made from shale and refined clays. These clays are forced (extruded) through a die by an auger creating a continuous bisque which is then cut at regular lengths . It is then fired in a tunnel kiln using what is called "reduction firing" to create a very tough and long-lasting product. Unglazed Quarry comes in various colors and sizes, including:

Unglazed Quarry, if it has a water absorption level of less than 3%, may be considered frost-resistant.
